GIF supports animations, PNG don’t. But on other hand, GIF has really low quality, PNG have really good and also supports Alpha-Transparency.

Here we see a loading animation in GIF, you cant really notice any difference between this and the APNG animation below…

But when we put different background colors behind the loading image we see the difference:

 

 

 

 

These were GIF’s in different background colors, now below is APNG animation under same backgrounds.

See the difference? while GIF does not truly blend with background, while APNG animations have alpha transparency, thus blend to the background correctly.

This is what makes APNG special, its actually a Animated-PNG!

Just check out those moves! eh?  Once again when we put this animation above different background colors we have a truly transparent high quality animation.

You won’t see this quality animation with GIF…

Now comes, how do we make these APNG animations? Well answer is pretty simple, use a software (lol).

JAPNG Editor is basically a application made in Java, its extension is .jar, you need Java 6 to run it.
You have to just put in different PNG files, and do the setting for all frames in animation as you want it to work.
